VOGUE SINGAPORE

_NOV ISSUE

I was the assistant stylist for the November Issue of Vogue Singapore, featuring H&M and Paco Rabanne. Together with the stylist, Nicholas See (@nicholas_see), we came up with the storyboard and the styling board together to best pay homage to Paco Rabanne and H&M.

During the shoot, I was tasked me with dressing the model according to the styling board, making last minute changes and arrangements where I saw fit.

I was the assistant stylist for the campaign featuring Rollermania 3.0 and the Plaza Singapura Mall. It is a nostalgic skating party presented by Trip.com and TheXAgency.

During the shoot, I was tasked me with dressing the model according to the styling board, making last minute changes and arrangements where I saw fit. To ensure styling was seamless, I memorised the looks before hand to ensure that all the outfits were coordinated.

Hard Boil, Soft Centre is a film made as part of @scapesg MOV:MENT Lab, exhibited for @sgartweek from 13 to 28 Jan 2024 at *SCAPE.

It is a surrealist short film that reimagines four female archetypes, threaded together with the symbol of the egg. During the shoot, I had to be on top of all the different costumes, and carry out many costume changes.

This was my year 1 project in Lasalle: A Fashion Photo Story

We were tasked to choose a magazine and shoot an editorial for said magazine, using a cultural phenomenon as a direction. We chose a Japanese cultural phenomenon, Hikikomori syndrome. It is a form of social withdrawal whereby one does not perform social responsibilities. Rather, they choose to recluse in their parents’ home for long periods of time. The following narrative depicts someone dealing with Hikikomori syndrome. He finds initial joy and comfort in solitude. However, subccuming to by his mental disorder, he is unable to leave his room. Thus, though he finds solace in being alone, he still longs for social connection.

RECLUSION

Role: Creative Director/ Stylist

Deliverables: Magazine Spread

ART OF RECLUSION + FINAL IMAGES: I wanted to showcase a person’s state of mind in this spread, dealing with this syndrome. The spread started of with lots of colours and chaos in terms of set design, but as the spread ends, it becomes quieter and less happening, to showcase his loneliness.

SOLACE

IN GENESIS

This was my year 1 project in Lasalle: Solace in Genesis

We were tasked to pick a local brand and curate a fashion campaign for them. We picked Youths in Balaclava as our brand, and analysed the brand’s values and visual identity. Our campaign for them titled “Solace in Genesis” explores unique self-expression while embracing our roots. The visuals follow four different personas in distinct Youths in Balaclava styled clothing as they explore and interact with the world around them.

Role: Creative Director/ Stylist

Deliverables: Magazine Spread, Fashion Film

EXORDIUM + FINAL IMAGES:

I wanted each persona to represent a brand value of Youths in Balaclava, specifically “Leader, Rebel, Realist and Wanderer”. The idea of nature comes from the idea of “going back to their roots”, paying homage to your origins.

sa iyo

jovialwong13@gmail.com +65 86873901

This was my year 2 project in Lasalle: sa iyo

In this project, we had to create an eyewear brand and design physical eyewear for said brand, relating cultural aspects in its design element. “sa iyo” was created as a Philippine-based contemporary unisex eyewear brand that uses transparency as a way to embrace our natural facial feature. The eyewear took inspiration from Pagtatawas, a Filipino pre-colonial practice of pouring hot wax into water and reading the unique shapes formed. We conducted a social experiment to further support our eyewear brand and message.

The final images were chosen and will be displayed at the Cross Pollination: ¡Moda Hoy! exhibition held at the Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology in New YorkvCity.

Role: Creative Director/ Designer

Deliverables: Zine, Fashion Film, Physical Eyewear

Designed in Blender and 3D printed by me. This eyewear, Tulo, takes on a more fluid form as it represents melting wax. It is also designed to be smaller and sleeker than normal eyewear to take us less space on the wearer’s face.

As a creative director, I took inspiration from Sharna Osborne’s photography style and edits, as well as the fun and quirky mood of her images.

! ZINE + FINAL IMAGES:

Inspired by Bottega’s Zine, I oversaw the creation of this Zine as a way to showcase our eyewear and show our dedication to embracing facial imperfections. We wanted this Zine to be expressive and unique.

SOCIAL EXPERIMENT VIDEO

This social experiment was done to support our brand and its message. We gathered strangers on the street and shot this in a photo booth, where they spoke about what they were insecure about and at the same time, had their picture taken as a way to embrace that feature.

This was my second year project where we explored the idea of rapid decay in the event of extreme high temperatures from global warming.

“BODIES ABODE: THE TEMP ISSUE delves into the intriguing realm of decay amidst soaring temperatures. Through meticulously crafted images, we unravel the mesmerising narrative of transformation as Mother Nature personified gracefully yields to the relentless heat. Each chapter bears witness to the subtle yet captivating dance of deterioration, following the gradual time of day to depicting the cyclical nature of life and death. Decay becomes a poetic expression, inviting reflection on the ephemeral beauty that emerges amidst the sweltering tropics of Southeast Asia”.

Role: Creative Director/ Stylist

Deliverables: Coffee Table Book, Fashion Film

This coffee table book was made to look like an accordion book as we explore the visual representation of the circle of life, the idea that everything will eventually come full circle.
